How We Test & Score AI Video Tools
Every tool in our directory is assessed the same way — on data, not marketing. Here's exactly how we score, verify and update our comparisons.
Our score (out of 10)
Each tool gets a score from 1 to 10 that reflects its overall quality for its intended use case. The score is a judgment call based on the data we track, weighted toward the factors that matter most for that tool's category:
- Output quality — resolution, watermark-free output, and how polished the result is.
- Feature depth — avatars, languages, voice cloning, integrations and API.
- Value — price relative to what you get, including free tiers and annual discounts.
- Ease of use — learning curve and how fast you can produce a finished video.
A higher score means "better for most people in its category" — it's not a one-size-fits-all ranking. A cheaper tool can outscore a pricier one if the value is better.
How we verify data
We don't guess. Pricing and features are checked against each tool's official website and documentation, and we update them as they change. Where a vendor doesn't publish a number — like a maximum video length or an exact avatar count — we mark it as "not published" instead of inventing a value.
Because pricing changes frequently and can vary by region, always confirm the final price on the vendor's site before buying.
How often we update
We review our data periodically and update individual tools whenever a material change happens — a price change, a new tier, or a new feature. Every page shows the date it was last updated.
Limitations
We compare tools based on published specs and our own assessment — not exhaustive hands-on testing of every feature. Our scores are editorial judgment informed by data, and your experience may vary depending on your specific use case.
Our independence
We earn through affiliate commissions, but that never changes a score or ranking. Read our affiliate disclosure for how we stay independent.
